Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs are wondering if the team would add a wide receiver before next month’s trade deadline, given that the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills made headline moves for star wide receivers Davante Adams and Amari Cooper.

The Chiefs have been connected to a number of wide outs up to this point, but nothing has materialized. Started the 2024 regular season 5-0, but Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown both went down with season-ending injuries.

To improve their passing game and make another long playoff run and Super Bowl appearance, they will need to add another wide receiver. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins of the Tennessee Titans is one player that appears to be a nice fit for the Chiefs.

During the 2023 offseason, Kansas City showed interest in signing the All-Pro wide receiver; nevertheless, he ultimately agreed to a two-year, $26 million deal with the Titans. In Tennessee, Hopkins had an outstanding 2023 season, catching 75 passes on 137 targets for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.

He has only caught 14 passes for 175 yards and a score this season with the Titans, though, so not much success. Six teams have just one victory so far this season, including Tennessee.

Considering such elements, the Chiefs should definitely aim to acquire the seasoned receiver through trade. However, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (subscription needed), Hopkins might not want to move from Nashville.

The Chiefs, who are severely lacking in receivers, haven’t been excessively aggressive in the market thus far. Coach Andy Reid appreciates receivers who have either played in his system or are familiar with it, as I was informed. It’s not always easy to find a circumstance that just plugs in. Kansas City, though, will continue to be agile. DeAndre Hopkins is a free agent in 2023 who the Chiefs admired, but Tennessee isn’t ready to deal him just yet because he enjoys playing there. It doesn’t seem like he’s desperate to leave.”

If you’re a Chiefs fan, this is the last thing you want to hear. With the exception of wide receiver Mike Williams of the New York Jets, Hopkins and Christian Kirk of the Jacksonville Jaguars are perhaps the next best trade candidates.

The Titans’ lack of enthusiasm to deal him is not surprising given that they have a young quarterback in Will Levis, who is having trouble this year despite flashing briefly as a rookie in 2023. Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd were two veterans that the Titans signed this summer as part of their deliberate effort to bolster their wide receiver group.

The Titans aren’t prepared to blow it up just yet, despite their difficulties. Consequently, the Chiefs need to be prepared with a backup plan, which might involve bringing back Marquez Valdes-Scantling or making a trade for Mike Williams.
