Price won the WBA title earlier this year by defeating Jessica McCaskill, the former undisputed champion. Price, who won a gold medal at the 2021 Olympics, was almost flawless when she defeated McCaskill in front of her home crowd in Cardiff in May.
In just her seventh professional bout, Price became Wales’ first female world champion, cementing her place in the historical books as the first Welsh boxer to earn Olympic gold.
The 30-year-old Ystrad Mynach native is aiming for this first defense and eventually welterweight domination, since she has not lost a professional bout.
The Bogota native, 29, is competing for the first time outside of her home country of Colombia in an attempt to enrage Price.
“I’m thrilled to be out defending my titles to finish what has been a big year for me,” the WBA champion stated. Mateus is someone I completely respect. I’ll demonstrate that I’m the best in the division and that nothing or anybody can prevent me from establishing my dominance.
“With three world champions competing, it’s a huge night for the women’s welterweight division,” stated Ben Shalom, founder and CEO of BOXXER. Lauren Price defends her world titles against undefeated opponent Bexcy Mateus, while Natasha Jonas returns to her hometown for a must-win unification bout against Ivana Habazin. The fight for undisputed is on.
“The stage will be set for a huge ‘Battle Of Britain’ world title unification matchup next year if Natasha and Lauren both win on December 14.”
