Following a video that showed him stepping on a Texas Tech player’s ankle during the Liberty Bowl over the weekend, Arkansas Razorbacks offensive lineman Fernando Carmona broke his silence and expressed regret for what had happened.
“I let my emotions get away from me. I have nothing but respect for Texas Tech and the game of football. I apologize to my team and coaches. I’m not that kind of player and will learn from this,” Carmona wrote on X.
Carmona stepping on C.J. Baskerville’s ankle drew criticism from many, and there were rumors that it was done on purpose. He was even “banned forever” from the game, according to others.
Baskerville experienced instant pain as a result of Carmona’s actions. Carmona, meantime, attempted to act as though he was assisting a teammate in getting off the field.
Carmona was accused of a “dirty” play by Baskerville.
“I am not discounting Arkansas’s outstanding performance from last night; there is no doubt about it. However, it is really unclean for #55 Fernando Carmona to deliberately walk on my ankle and apply pressure to it,” Baskerville posted on X on Saturday.
“Do better.” “Proceeds to say “got your b**** a***.”
The Razorbacks defeated the Red Raiders 39-26 to win the bowl game, and this incident happened in the fourth quarter.
With ten tackles overall and one pass deflection, Baskerville was Texas Tech’s top tackler during the game. During his final year, he recorded 52 total tackles and four interceptions.
