Tommy Doyle, an offensive lineman with the Bills, declared his medical retirement from the NFL on Friday.

Doyle’s four-year career was sadly marred by injuries, and the most recent one to his left leg has damaged his nerves.

Doyle remarked, “At this point, with the calendar and the healing process, it looks as though it’s permanent,” about the wounded leg. “I just cannot play football at a high level, and the time has come. “When you know you know.”

On August 19, 2023, Doyle sustained the serious leg injury in Buffalo’s second preseason game against the Steelers. His right leg had an ACL tear in Week 3 of the 2022 season, which was his other significant injury.

“I was really battling and competing and working to come back from that (ACL) injury, only to be kind of struck with an even more disastrous injury,” Doyle stated. However, there were a lot of bad feelings and rage by the conclusion of the day. I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently, and I’ve gained a lot of insightful knowledge from it.”

Doyle claimed to have learnt, among other things, that his identity is not limited to the football field. The four-year player also said that making the choice to retire took a lot of thought.
“Football is something that I’ve loved and put my life into,” Doyle stated. And in an attempt to return to the field, I invested a great deal of time, energy, and effort. Nevertheless, I am aware that it is ultimately not God’s purpose for me. I think it’s time to make the announcement and go on.

The offensive lineman appeared in 11 games during his first season, which was when he got the most action. Doyle was first selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bills.

Doyle’s playoff touchdown in his debut season will live in the memories of many fans. In the fourth quarter of the Wild Card round game against the Patriots, the offensive lineman grabbed a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Allen. Buffalo scored on every possession to defeat New England 47–17.
