Freshman Guard KJ Tenner ‘Open to Returning’ to West Virginia

West Virginia freshman guard KJ Tenner has left the door open for a potential return to the Mountaineers next season after initially entering the transfer portal. The 5’10” guard, who showed flashes of potential in limited action during the 2023-24 season, could provide backcourt depth if he decides to withdraw from the portal and remain in Morgantown.

Tenner, a three-star recruit out of Myers Park High School (NC), appeared in 13 games as a reserve for WVU, averaging 1.2 points and 0.9 assists per contest. While his playing time was sparse on a veteran-heavy roster, his quickness and playmaking ability were evident in brief stints.

New West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries has been actively reshaping the roster, retaining key players like guard Ofri Naveh while adding impact transfers. Tenner’s return could add another ball-handler to the mix, especially if he develops further under DeVries’ system.

Tenner has not yet committed to a new program, leaving the possibility of a reunion with the Mountaineers. A final decision could come in the coming weeks as he evaluates his options.

Stay tuned for updates on KJ Tenner’s status as West Virginia continues to build for the 2024-25 season.
