As has been written plenty of times, what the transfer portal provides, it can also take away and vice versa. Fortunately for the Georgia Bulldogs, the program finally received a glimmer of hope in the transfer portal this week.
On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported Thursday that edge rusher transfer Beau Atkinson will visit Athens, Ga.
Atkinson will also visit the Ohio State Buckeyes. On3’s Spencer Holbrook wrote Thursday no dates have been planned for either visit as of yet.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Atkinson played in every game for the Tar Heels last season. He had 24 tackles and seven sacks last year for the Tar Heels,” Holbrook wrote. “But after a coaching change from Mack Brown to Bill Belichick, Atkinson hit the transfer portal Wednesday.”
In two seasons at North Carolina, Atkinson posted 11 sacks, 17 tackles for loss and 54 combined tackles. The edge rusher also had one forced fumble.
During the 2024 season, Atkinson had 7.5 sacks with 12 tackles for loss.
On3’s Pete Nakos wrote on Sunday that the Bulldogs “have identified” edge rusher as one of their main needs to address in the transfer portal. Nakos left open the possibility of Georgia adding multiple edge rushers.
With the 2025 recruiting class, the Bulldogs signed five-star edge prospect Isaiah Gibson and four-star edge rushers Darren Ikinnagbon and Chase Linton.
