A key Tennessee Vols player was ranked by On3 this week as one of the top players in college football.

On3 ranked the top 100 players in the sport and Vols junior cornerback Jermod McCoy came in at No. 17 on their list.

McCoy, who started his career at Oregon State before transferring to Tennessee ahead of the 2024 season, was a revelation for the Vols last season.

The Texas native quickly proved to be one of the top cornerbacks in the SEC. One of McCoy’s best games came in the Volunteers’ win against the Alabama Crimson Tide when he held superstar wide receiver Ryan Williams to 73 yards on eight receptions (still a solid game from Williams, but nowhere close to what he did against Georgia last year).

As a result of his breakout 2024 season, McCoy is already receiving hype as a potential first round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately for McCoy (and for Tennessee), he tore his ACL in early January during offseason workouts. It’s unclear when he’ll be able to return to action, though his rehab is reportedly going well. The Vols are hopeful that McCoy will be able to return to full strength at some point in 2025. It’s far too early, however, to forecast a potential return date for the All-SEC cornerback.
