Lazio have reportedly completed a sensational deal for Mexican striker Santiago Giménez, with the unexpected transfer claim sending excitement through the club’s supporters.
The striker had been strongly linked with Lazio throughout the summer after falling out of favour at AC Milan. Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso reportedly identified Giménez as a priority target and was prepared to give the Mexican forward an opportunity to revive his career in Serie A.
However, the transfer situation became complicated as Milan were reluctant to accept Lazio’s preferred loan proposal. Lazio continued to monitor the situation while Giménez considered his options.
The latest confirmed development is that Giménez joined FC Porto on loan from Milan on August 31, with an option to make the move permanent that can become an obligation if specific conditions are fulfilled.
Therefore, claims that Lazio completed the signing should currently be treated as unconfirmed.
Had the deal gone through, Giménez would have represented a major attacking addition for Gattuso’s project. The Mexican striker will now instead look to rebuild his confidence in Portugal and prove his quality with Porto.
For Lazio supporters, the Giménez story remains one of the biggest transfer opportunities that slipped away this summer.
