According to sources who spoke with Football Insider, there is a “disaster” scenario in which Nottingham Forest could challenge the hearing’s ruling and increase their punishment.
Monday, March 18, saw Forest receive a four-point deduction for breaking the Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League.
Over a three-year period, they lost more than £34.5 million than they were allowed to.
Due to their cooperation with the investigation, the original punishment of six points was later lowered to two points for the seriousness of the violation.
Following the ruling, Forest released a club statement expressing their “extreme disappointment” with the outcome.
They now have a week to determine whether to file an appeal of the ruling.
If Nottingham Forest files an appeal, they could lose further points.
In November, Everton successfully contested their 10-point deduction; during a subsequent hearing, the penalty was lowered to six points.
Football Insider has been informed by insiders, meanwhile, that there is a “potential for an appeal to turn into disaster.”
A different commission would hear the appeal, and they would have the power to change any penalties assessed, so Forest might lose more points.
Due to their four-point deduction, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team fell into the relegation zone and have lost their last four league games.
Even if it seems doubtful, another point punishment could have a significant effect on Forest’s final league standing.
