This summer, Celtic did a fantastic job of locking down some of their best players with better, longer contracts.
This season, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, Callum McGregor, and young Hoops wonderkid, Mitchel Frame have all written books.
And it appears that Matt O’Riley will now join the group of players who have pledged their long-term futures to Celtic, as TBR Celtic highlighted yesterday.
Peter Grant was utterly overjoyed with it.
The Go Radio Football Show is fantastic, according to Grant. I was delighted and felt he was exceptional. On Sunday, I was doing simple stuff. Late in the game, Rangers started to apply some pressure.
“I felt that was terrific from him since that was the aspect of his game that was being questioned. He intercepted so many balls on the 18-yard box.
We were aware of his skill with the ball, but we were also impressed with his positioning to make interceptions and prevent the ball from landing in the feet of strikers near the box.
“I thought he played exceptionally well in the game, and it would be great if he signed a new long-term contract,” the author said.
O’Riley has played a crucial role in helping Celtic win five of the six titles they have won over the past two seasons.
Since making his Celtic debut in January 2022 against Hearts, O’Riley has excelled. Only Aaron Mooy and Reo Hatate’s performances during the previous season prevented him from starting for a while. He has, however, generally been one of Celtic’s most reliable players.
O’Riley, who is only 22 years old, is already shown his talent as a top player and his ability to manage the strain of competing for a major organization like Celtic. It’s not surprising that teams are smelling him out.
But when he signs his new deal, they will need to make a lot better offer than the pitiful £10 million Leeds United sought to pay for O’Riley.
