Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool hero, has spoken out about Celtic’s “tough” night against Atletico Madrid.

The Parkhead continued after doubles from Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata, as well as strikes from Samuel Lino and Saul Niguez, as the Scottish champions lost 6-0 to Diego Simeone’s side. And Carragher believes Daizen Maeda’s red card was a game changer. Let’s not forget Celtic were down to ten, so it was always going to be a tough night for them,” Carragher told CBS Sports.

“It was about Celtic trying to keep the score low and failing.” The problem they (Atletico Madrid) had was that they dropped points against Celtic (in the 2-2 draw), which had never happened before.

“They played them twice, so getting four points out of six against Celtic was critical. Now, they better hope that Celtic can maybe take points off someone else in the last couple of games and they do their own job as well (to progress).

Meanwhile, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s dismissal, Jota may finally get a second chance at Al-Ittihad.

In June of this year, the former Celtic star relocated from Glasgow to Saudi Arabia. He joined the Pro League champions for around £25 million and eagerly accepted the opportunity to earn life-changing money. However, the Portuguese winger’s move to the Middle East has not gone as planned after helping the Hoops win the treble last season.

He was left out of the club’s domestic squad because club rules only allow for eight foreign players. Al-Ittihad’s ranks were overcrowded, so Jota was forced to watch from the sidelines. He won’t be able to play in any Pro League games until January, when squad lists can be reviewed.

At the time of his departure, it was reported that he would seek a loan move away from the club or even a mutual termination of his contract. However, with ex-Tottenham manager Espirito Santo no longer at Al-Ittihad, Jota’s future could still be there if he can impress the new manager.
