Jamie Lindsay, a midfielder for Rotherham United, is expected to sign with Wrexham, breaking their transfer record in the process.

Before this Thursday night’s transfer deadline, the Red Dragons are rumored to be in advanced talks to sign the 28-year-old. It’s anticipated that a deal would be larger than the £380,000 ($300,000) the club paid AFC Wimbledon for Ollie Pope in the January 2023 transfer window.
The bigger picture James McClean, George Evans, and Steven Fletcher all dropped down to join the Red Dragons in League Two this season; the strategy could even be seen as far back as the summer of 2021, when Paul Mullin was famously charmed into dropping down to the Conference after firing Cambridge United to promotion to League One. If Wrexham does indeed land Lindsay, the deal will have some familiar hallmarks. Since the arrival of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the club have continually looked up the league pyramid and convinced players at higher levels to join the ambitious project.
